As cooler days approach, you may find yourself wanting to curl up under a blanket and skip your workout. Luckily, fall is the perfect time for out-of-the-box workouts. Next time you find yourself wanting to avoid a workout, consider one of these outdoor workouts that you probably already have planned on your calendar.
Apple Picking
Planning on a long walk around the apple orchard? Those steps all add up, and they’ll help you get closer to your daily step goal. As you bend, stretch, and reach for the perfect apples at the orchard, you’re moving your body in ways similar to how you might move in the fitness center.
Fall-Themed Run/Walks
With chilly weather comes more themed runs. From costume-themed Halloween runs to family Thanksgiving 5Ks, there’s a variety of ways to get your cardio in. You may have to bundle up on colder days, but this is the perfect opportunity to build community and get your daily exercise.
Raking Leaves
If you have a yard, you know that taxing fall yard work is right around the corner. Raking, scooping, and bagging the leaves in your yard is a great form of exercise, as you’re utilizing your full-body muscles while doing this everyday task.
Hiking
The summer heat is coming to an end, and that means you can exercise outdoors longer. Grab a hoodie and a bottle of water and find a hiking trail near you. The natural incline on the trails makes for a perfect elevated walk.
Biking
If running and hiking aren’t for you, consider biking this fall. A lap around the neighborhood or a long ride down a bike path will get your blood pumping and your calories burning. Plus, this low-impact exercise is perfect to decrease stress on your joints.
